FAQ: Hero’s Codex: A Modular 3D Printable RPG Character Station
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Can my 3D printer print the Hero’s Codex?

The Hero’s Codex is designed to be printable on most standard FDM printers with a 220 × 220 mm build area or larger.

While 3D printer build volumes continue to grow, we specifically designed the Codex to remain accessible to most printers.

How much filament do I need to print the Hero’s Codex?

The complete Hero’s Codex, including the outer shell and inserts, can be printed with approximately one standard 1 kg spool of filament.

Actual filament usage may vary slightly depending on your slicer settings, infill, supports, and chosen configuration, but one 1 kg spool should be enough for a complete Codex setup.

Do I need a multicolor 3D printer?

No! Every model will include a single-color version that can be printed on a standard FDM printer.

For multicolor users, we will also provide split STL files. Simply import the corresponding parts together into your slicer and assign your desired colors. This means you can enjoy the Hero’s Codex whether you use a regular single-color printer or a multicolor setup.

Do I need supports?

The outer shells of the Hero’s Codex are designed to print without supports. Currently, some of the internal components still require supports, but we are actively working toward making the entire Hero’s Codex collection fully support-free before delivery. We know how much extra time and material supports can require, so optimizing every component for an easy printing experience is one of our priorities before the files are delivered.

What do I need besides the printed parts?

The Hero’s Codex has been designed to require only a few additional components.

The hinges use a simple piece of 1.75 mm filament as the hinge pin, while the closing mechanisms of the Hero’s Codex and side-panel storage boxes use 6 × 2 mm magnets.

We recommend gluing the magnets in place to ensure they remain secure during use.

The included PDF assembly manual will guide you through the entire process, including the correct magnet orientation so you can install them without accidentally mixing up the polarities.

Can I mix and match the different Hero’s Codex setups?

Absolutely!

The Hero’s Codex was designed around customization. You can choose from over 25 different inserts and combine the components you need to create a setup that works for your character and playstyle.

The configurations shown throughout the Kickstarter are simply examples — you are free to mix and match the compatible inserts to build your own Codex.

Are the pre-built Codex configurations shown in the campaign included?

Yes! Every pre-built configuration shown as part of the campaign will be included with the corresponding files.

Any additional configurations successfully unlocked through Stretch Goals during the campaign will also be included.

These builds are there to give you ready-to-print setups while still allowing you to mix, match, and customize the Hero’s Codex around your own character and playstyle.

What file formats will I receive?

The printable models will be delivered as STL files, together with a PDF assembly manual.

Multicolor models are currently provided as separate, aligned STL parts. Simply import the corresponding parts together into your slicer and assign the desired colors before printing.

We are also looking into additional file formats for multicolor printing to make the process even more convenient where possible.

Are assembly instructions included?

Yes. You will receive a step-by-step PDF assembly guide showing you exactly how to put your Hero’s Codex together.

The Codex has been designed with straightforward assembly in mind, and assembling the main box should take approximately 10 minutes once all parts are printed.

Is the Commercial License really lifetime?

Yes. The Lifetime Commercial License is a one-time payment with no recurring fees, renewals, or time limit.

Once purchased, your commercial license remains valid for life, allowing you to sell physical prints of the included Hero’s Codex files indefinitely.

Have the files been test printed?

Yes! The Hero’s Codex has already gone through extensive prototyping and real-world test printing.

In the weeks leading up to launch, we used feedback from our community to make numerous improvements to the design which you can already see on the Kickstarter campaign page.

During the campaign, we will continue test prints and improvements.

Our goal is to use the time before delivery to refine every detail so that on September 11 you receive polished, production-ready STL files ready for a fun weekend of printing.

When does the Pledge Manager open?

We are using BackerKit as our pledge manager.

The pledge manager is planned to open on September 1, 2026.

Complete your pledge manager by September 10 to be included in the first file delivery on Friday, September 11.

If you complete your pledge manager later, your files will be delivered after your pledge has been confirmed in the pledge manager.

How will the files be delivered?

After the campaign ends, you will receive an email with instructions to access your files through MyMiniFactory.

Our first file delivery is planned for Friday, September 11, 2026. Backers who complete their pledge manager in time for the first delivery will receive access to their files on that date.

Last updated: August 11, 2026 08:37

Will the files receive updates after delivery?

Our goal is to deliver a thoroughly tested, production-ready collection of STL files that has been tested both through printing and real-world use.

However, if an issue is discovered after delivery, we will continue providing fixes and file updates for at least 12 months after the initial delivery date.

Any corrected versions will be made available to all backers.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
